New Orleans native David Castillo is a performing artist and producer who delivers “impassioned” (Los Angeles Times), “beautifully sung and confidently acted” (Opera News) performances in the U.S. and Europe. David resides as an inaugural Company Member of The Industry.
In his fourth season as a soloist with the LA Philharmonic, he returns this fall for Cage’s Europeras 1 & 2. Previous engagements include Elkhanah Pulitzer’s production of Bernstein’s MASS with Maestro Gustavo Dudamel. This production led to David’s Lincoln Center debut at the Mostly Mozart Festival with Maestro Louis Langrée; the world premieres of War of the Worlds and Theatre of the World, released on Nonesuch Records; and covering in Night and Dreams: A Schubert & Beckett Recital.
His relationship with The Industry began with several new works developed through their First Take series and continued Hopscotch, the world premiere of Bonnie and Clyde, Galileo, and Nimbus. Other notable world premieres include LA Opera as Atzuko in ¡Figaro! (90210) (and later in his Off-Broadway & New York debut) and the LA Master Chorale as King David in Songs of Ascent.
Highlights from recent seasons include his debuts with The Cleveland Orchestra in Pélleas et Mélisande with Maestro Franz Welser-Möst and director Yuval Sharon and a return to the New Orleans Opera in Carmen with Bryan Hymel as Don José. He made his European debut in Paris with pianist François Chouchan in Schubert’s Winterreise. On screen, he appeared on America’s Got Talent and in commercials for Dyson, Heineken, and PicBot.
With a driven and ambitious team of artist, David founded and serves as Creative Director of Jukebox Castle. His headline production, Seven Deadly Sins, immerses audiences into the sensory intersection of the musical, culinary, movement, visual, and mixology arts.
