A New Orchestral Work Reimagining the Concerto and Symphony
Composed by Clarice Assad
For Orchestra with Optional Live Electronics

This new orchestral work by Clarice Assad reimagines the relationship between concerto and symphony, transforming the traditional soloist-versus-ensemble model into a dynamic musical conversation among the orchestra’s own voices.
Structured in four movements, the work unfolds as a constellation of evolving mini-concerti, where principal players emerge from and return to the orchestral texture in a choreographed dialogue of sound. Soloists step forward individually and in duets, creating moments of virtuosity, intimacy, and exchange while remaining deeply connected to the collective power of the ensemble.
Rather than placing a single instrumental voice at the center, the work celebrates the orchestra as a community of distinct personalities. Each musician becomes both storyteller and collaborator, revealing the interplay between individual expression and collective artistry.
The piece may also incorporate live electronic elements performed by Clarice Assad, adding an atmospheric dimension that expands the sonic palette while preserving the acoustic foundation of the orchestra. These electronic textures serve as both counterpoint and complement to the instrumental voices, creating a bridge between classical tradition and contemporary sonic exploration.
Through this innovative hybrid of concerto, symphony, and immersive sound world, Assad invites audiences to experience the orchestra in a new way—as a living, evolving landscape where many voices come together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.
